Exciting times for Hong Kong as it solidifies its status not just as a Wine Hub but also the Art Hub of Asia
"my girl" - AJ Halkes 1977

With Christie’s high-profile expansion at The Henderson in Central, joining the ranks of Sotheby’s Asia Flagship (Sotheby’s Maison in core central) and Phillips (West Kowloon Cultural District), it’s clear the global art powerhouses see Hong Kong as the go-to art destination in Asia. Some recent Hong Kong auction results even surpassed top estimates—including a world record for American artist Lucy Paul.

Beyond the art itself, Hong Kong offers unparalleled advantages: top-notch private vault storage facilities at the airport, free trade flow, a robust legal system with strong commercial remedies and English as an official language.

All these factors create a transparent, bilingual environment and our unique geographic location sees Hong Kong uniquely positioned for a booming future in the global art world.

As a creator since my first exhibition at 17, it’s heartening to witness this rapid transformation. Let’s keep the momentum going and also ensure we continue to champion our incredible local talent; there is a lot of it. I’ve even added a photo that I took to this post; shot in Aberdeen in the 70s on a Zenit camera which is long gone, as is the location which is now a highway. In quiet moments I often wonder where “my girl” is now.
