Imagine if Hong Kong could capture the magic of London's Clerkenwell back-in-the-day—could this be the start?

Of course, we’re a bit short of quirky old semi-industrial buildings or vibrant areas bustling with reinvigoration like London has enjoyed; however, let’s see what happens at 181 Restaurant, K11 Musea as HK Fortnum & Mason is playing host to head chef Trevor Gulliver …
Of course, it’s only a sort of “pop-up” for a couple of days, but many people I know only came to Hong Kong for a few days. Perhaps for a few weeks or a short-term stay for pleasure or contract work. They then got hooked, eventually they ended up staying, building careers, establishing businesses and having families. The mentality here of our pro-business environment and the international nature of the city plus the environment has always been focused on “can do”.
Though some regulations are a tad opposed to that mindset (food is getting easier by the day by the way!), it is changing : the government is open to change and understands that we are in competition with everyone in the region.
I wonder what magic will happen to St John as a brand after a couple of days testing here and once people from the team have their eyes opened by what is possible here in the HKSAR.
Right now, I do see “Hong Kong can do” steadily resuming – the potential for anybody who wants to come to Hong Kong and take a look is here right now; perhaps the St John venture decides to extend, or even look to take up long term residence via an overseas outpost.
In the meantime; I’ve booked so I will go and see what the buzz is all about.
