Hospitality, Events and Activities in Hong Kong - Legal and Regulatory
Every event, concert, party or function .. from a bicycle race to a competitive swim, art exhibition or movie screening … almost all are regulated in Hong Kong. If you want to hold a pub quiz, raffle or adventure race just make sure it’s not regulated. Meeting the challenge of these types of events and ensuring they run smoothly has been a consistent challenge for every operator of one in Hong Kong for decades. The authorities are naturally cautious about permitting any type of activities which involve people competing and or where prizes are offered for winning. This extends to raffles and even some types of casual gambling in certain circumstances.
When it comes to gathering and events, Hong Kong is a regulator quagmire with multiple agencies involved, multiple permit systems, and just about anything and everything can be problematic if not spell the end of an event, with best intentions, before it’s even started. As the public is involved, so are our regulators and just because the premises is a private members club, or some type of access restriction is applicable, this is absolutely no guarantee that it won’t draw the attention of the authorities and resulting some type of enforcement in any case.
