Shenzhen’s Transformation—A Glimpse Across and Along the disappearing Border!
By HK Lawyer AJ Halkes Barrister-at-Law

Just spent the past few days viewing Shenzhen from both sides, and the changes are remarkable. During a visit organized by the Australian Chamber of Commerce, I was amazed by the innovative leaps on display. From Tencent to Mindray, the advances are beyond what I expected: live 3-D conferencing, lightning-fast live voice-to-text translation with video, and more. The future of business and communication is here, and it’s astonishing.
Mindray, a medical device giant I hadn’t heard of, demonstrated phenomenal market reach given their relatively short history. I saw a simple but incredibly effective device perfect for easing staff workload at my mother’s care home—ideal for safely moving elderly patients. It’s a small example of how technology can directly impact quality of life.
I’m sharing a image along the Shenzhen-Hong Kong border as it stands today. For anyone with an interest in Hong Kong, its history, and “the land between” now’s the time to see it—before it inevitably changes.
