My mother’s kitchen timer shows time slipping away, you’re overcooked if you ignore it.
By HK Lawyer AJ Halkes Barrister-at-Law
A loud reminder, time passes fast, so make the best of it. If you’ve lost track of time, get a manual kitchen timer, wind it up, and invest manual labour in the process. Connect physically with time itself and see how quickly thirty minutes disappears.
I often think we have lost our solid connection with time. Half the young people I know do not even wear watches.
There are internet rabbit holes we are lured into by content pathways designed to fuel our addictions, deliver instant gratification, and promote doom scrolling; distractions that shield us from uncomfortable truths about time.
The biggest hidden truth: they are all stealing our time!
This time, theft is unpaid labour fuelling someone else’s fortune while we age. That said, I am not one to avoid exploring what is around us, just recognise the cost.
You can regain control. Set a physical timer and use it to regulate your time and your life, in modest 30-minute chunks.
If life feels like it is being hijacked, the fix may already be in your hands: my mother’s kitchen timer works just great – no batteries required!
