Hong Kong has many quirky food and coffee spots for tourists and locals

Hong Kong has many quirky spots for tourists and locals. Upper Lascar Row is right up there; it is also becoming a bit of a coffee and food street, albeit the outlets are mostly hidden behind a buzz of street activity and the type of stalls that I have written about before. What I really like about Hong Kong is the fact that you always stumble on hidden gems if you keep your eyes open and get out there and explore.

Last weekend, I was wandering around looking for somewhere to eat. Years ago, I helped Blue Supreme secure a liquor license in the area, so I headed there. It has survived, and I was pleased to see it was pretty full, but it was not a dining option. Then I noticed a really clean-looking Japanese joint tucked away between two shops selling what some people might call tourist fodder rather than antiques. If you know me, you will understand I can’t resist Japanese food, and a few grilled skewers and some sake were an ideal Sunday evening idea.

I went back later, and it turned out to be really good. So if you enjoy Kushiyaki (or Yakitori), I strongly suggest giving the guys at Chi Yawaragu a try. A map link is included below.

Full disclosure, they are not clients of mine, and I have no connection with them at all; it was a random first visit. I am just saying that they really looked after me, ask for Regina and see what happens. Hong Kong is a great place to walk around, to explore and to keep re-visiting our older areas, even for those of us who call it home, especially in the amazing weather we are having right now: there is a changing vibe as new F&B outlets are opening all the time. Get your walking shoes on and go work up an appetite.
